This and that

Winner of Lemire’s Plugworks  metal lip lure is anglerace@hotmail.com

The winner of the 8 1/2inch, 3 ounce mammoth Wave Jammer who guessed Lou’s favorite picture is …well, no one. Not one of you guessed that Lou favorite picture is on page 75…looks like a fine picture to me 🙂

So the plug goes back into the rotation, to be given away at another time.

Wait, its holiday season…so why not just pick another guy randomly?….Ok ,the winner of Wave Jammer is ….Zeno Hro….wait, that would be a bit weird…and unethical.

Ok ,the real winner is Ryan Chenette, the guy who says “I never win anything”

Both of you must furnish your mailing address to info@surfcastersjournal.com within 5 days or you forfeit the prize. Remember that big loot of AOK Tackle tins? The winner never stepped forward so I will give you a chance to win it again soon.

We might be fishlanthropists but we got rules…capish ? 😉

Few thoughts on last minute gift ideas. What do I want? More St Croix Legends and CTS rods would be nice…not sure if can get that passed by Da Wife

From Camp Site Sports in Huntington NY, comes the news that they are now a GoPro dealer. Now you can check out these little gems in person  and see what the hype is all about

This is from email I received from them,

Everyone should have one of these little marvels in their tackle box, on their boat, their car, their skis, their fishing rod, wherever you want to put it. The list of potential mounting spots is endless. Capture true 1080p HD video and 11Mp stills in a pocket sized, waterproof, shock proof, virtually indestructible package. We have a host of GoPro accessories in stock including many mounting options, LCD backs and spare batteries. While stocks last we are offering a free 8Mp class 10 SDHC card with each Go Pro camera purchased.

In other news, Burford Books, publisher of many surf fishing titles  have a new redesigned website. Check it out at www.burfordbooks.com

Reel Women of Fishing is a calendar that some of you might like to find under the Christmas tree…you can check it out here http://www.amazon.com/REEL-Women-Fishing-Calendar-2012/dp/B0069OOLGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323984640&sr=8-1

Last and definitely not least, tune in this weekend for a Commando Surfcasting Custom Bag giveaway. As soon as I come up for air I will hook you guys up. And yes, that comment about Johnny Walker was a joke…I can’t hold liquor of any kind so I don’t bother. Hell, if I drink a dozen beers in  year that is a lot..although I must say, on a warm summer night, a big juicy steak on the grill…it calls for a nice, cold Sam Adams. Its funny thing, no one i fish with drinks. We all show up at the beach, each guy with a thermos of 7/11 coffee. Then we make another pot after we drain what we brought….old men 😉

Crazy Commando Bucktails a Big Fish with a ZeeBaaS

One thing we try to do at Surfcaster’s Journal Magazine is to bring you a stories, videos and pictures that you haven’t seen before. Let’s be honest, there are only so many ways we can write about casting up current, looking for deep holes in the sandbar or casting your offering to shadow lines without being redundant. We are lucky to have Tommy, our Art Director and head of our “Cool Department”, dismiss any stories that he finds boring. Because if it was up to me, this magazine would have not looked the way it does. Fortunately I had good sense of listening to his advice. Along the way, I even tried to be a little more artistic although that is still work in progress. What can I say, I am as square as a 2×4. While giving the Cool Dude the props I should mention that he not only designs the mag, all the logos, stickers, shirts and soon a sweatshirts but he also designed covers of the books, Secrets of Surf Fishing at Night, Surfcaster, Fishing the Bucktail…and who knows how many punk band album covers and other things you really not need to know 🙂

Here is a preview of some things that we have coming up for you guys.

When you finish watching this video you will understand what we mean by “ Crazy Commando Bucktails a Big Fish with a ZeeBaaS”

Enjoy…I don’t think you will find this kind of a content anywhere

This and that

Today is the second anniversary of the Issue # 1 of the Surfcaster’s Journal Magazine. Few guys thought you guys deserved your own publication. Most though we were just plain crazy. Hell, I still think we were nuts to do this.

What you see today, is a result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people. Our editors, columnists, writers, Tommy the Art Director and also many of you who made suggestions, and gave advice over these two years. I am not sure what the future will bring but I do have one wish. A hope that more of you will contact us at info@surfcastersjournal.com with an idea you might be interested in putting on paper. We are always on a lookout for fresh voices, new ideas. We don’t only cover how-to but instead we try to cover the sport of surfcasting as a lifestyle. Catching the fish is truly just a bonus some days. You might be a close friend of  a lure builder, you might have something unusual happen to you while fishing or maybe you visited  a place you want to tell us about. Our doors are always open…

This being a holiday season, I am sure many of you have a Christmas Wish List, either a  things you are looking to get as gifts or something you are buying for yourself. Care to tell us what is on your list?

My list is short. A trip somewhere warm where there are some warm water species close to the shore would be all I really want. I have more tackle than I can use, so anything warm would do. I am not a big fan of NY winters. After breaking three 7 foot rods in 24 hours last week I will look into replacing some. Story for another day..lol

One note, our STRIPERTHON 2011 contest, Junior Category in particular. We are not sticklers for rules here with kids. We will extend to this weekend for you to send us any picture of your child with this year’s surf caught fish, any species. Send it to info@surfcastersjournal.com. We’ll take a vote next week

and last not but definitely not least

ZeeBaas is having their first self-service seminar on Sat, Dec 10 at 9:00 AM

It will be held at their shop 335 Benton street, Stratford CT

Ron will be demonstrating self service of the reel and answering questions.

He will be going over the different lube options, how to use the new tool kit they just came out with, and the different o-ring kits they now have.

As an added bonus, Gary Soldati will be there to brag about getting the first 50 with a lefty ZeeBaas!

Enjoy
