I know some of you in the northern parts are sucking wind but on Long Island ,NY, this was one of the best weeks of the year. Even boys in NJ got onto some crazy action last few days. I’ve seen peanut bunker, mullet, jacks, spearing, adult bunker, snappers, kingfish, sand eels and baby weakfish, all being either chased on the sand of spit out by blues. And that is in only last three days!!!

The only thing that is missing are large fish although there was a nice influx of bigger fish in Montauk this week, including Bruno’s 44 pounder. Something for us west of the point to look forward too. If you are a Montauk junkie. by all means head there, plenty of action to be found.

Whoever tells you that Montauk action was bad this year, like it was last year. is lying to you. There were more blitzes in the daytime this year that we’ve seen in a long time. Of course the nighttime bite was dead but these fish feed all day, what do you expect?

South shore action was better than last year but nowhere near what it used to be. It still bother me to see pod after pod of mullet running along the beach, unmolested.

From what I could gather, North of Montauk the action left a lot to be desired. I know off guys who started in  Cape, jumped over the Cutty, then to Block, then from there to Montauk, only to end up in south shore inlets off all places….and these guys are not even Long Island residents…search for big fish will take you to some strange places

And last but not least, now that some bigger fish have showed up, don’t forget to snap few pictures. You got another 14 days to enter STRIPERTHON 2010 and win Penn Torque or other great prizes.

Z, Even though the mullet run is a disapointment again the bass want those mullet. I saw mullet being chased on Thursday buy 20# bass while they ignored the live bunker I had on for the most part.
At least those 15# blues loved that bunker and took poppers after the the tide started too move. Sick stuff down here last couple days, but nothing for me today except one little bass.
