Reel service

Many of you are probably wondering if you should self-service your Van Staal reels or send it to Oklahoma to be serviced?

For someone like me who has two left feet and all thumbs, the self-service thing is not an option. I still remember when I took apart a small Penn 940 bait caster to clean many years ago and then had to bag it and mail it to Penn begging them to put it back together. Granted VS has a lot less part but I haven’t found a  nut I couldn’t strip yet or handle on anything I couldn’t break. So my reels are getting serviced…but did you know that you can do it locally?

Many of you know that Pat Abate at River’s End in CT does the VS servicing for last few years. Now you have another option as Paulie’s Tackle in Montauk ,NY is doing a whole shebang too, from just cleaning and maintenance to full servicing. Either one of these shops is stocked with fantastic people who care about your business and I wouldn’t hesitate to send my reels to either one…

And now for the winner of Hansom Pliers….

the winner is Bryan C… bchurch1183@gmail.com

Congrats

    Congrats Bryan!
Pat at Rivers End has been awesome for repairs and service. I’ve even had them send me parts for self service.
It’s nice to have an option now with Paulie’s.

Fish most 90% with fly in the surf and in the estuaries. Fishing the beach is great early am summer months when stripers are in tight. You should try the cinder worm hatch with fly rod. Its incredible.

Just sent my 200 out to Rivers End B&T for maintenance. They came highly recommended from a few friends. Spoke with Pat today on the phone, very nice to deal with. Sent the reel UPS, hoping to beat the snow storm!!

Both shops have fixed my VS reels. Ya they break, but it’s OK. Both shops did a great job.
Paulie’s is my choice. He is the real deal. But if River’s End is local don’t worry.
BTW Paulie fixed 2 VS reels for me in less than a half hour, for less than the price of a pizza.
Besides you never know which member of the VS pro team will talk with you while you wait 7 have free coffee.
