Rigging an eel “Al Bentsen Way” Part I
As some of you know, there are different method of accomplishing same things.
When it comes to rigging eels it seems that regional approach is very different and if you grew up in New Jersey you probably were introduced to a rigged eel via swim plate made out of a tin. In New York ,you were probably thought to rig eels “Al Bentsen” way.
Yes I understand there is videos out there showing different techniques and little shortcuts to save time.
We are however believers in Al’s method and besides, we’d like to continue the tradition and legacy of Mr. Bentsen. Of course rigging it his way wont insure that our success will match his. In fact, we doubt that we will ever come close to his accomplishments but part of us feel this burning desire to continue on the path he has cleared for future generation of anglers.
We asked his best friend, confidant and fishing partner Roger Martin to show you how to rig eel Al Bentsen way. After all, all of us at Surfcaster’s Journal have been thought by Roger over the years.
Don’t be intimidated by the process…once you start catching fish it can get addictive in a hurry…next thing you know, you spend so much time with a needle your wife will be asking you to sew her VS (not, not Van Staal,,,Victoria Secret) undies
By all means, go to YouTube and watch it in Fullscreen HD
Part II coming up

Most of us at Surfcaster’s Journal and many of our friends make a point of attending Rivers End annual Striper Surf Day. I’ve spoken there in past few years but fortunately they are putting me out of my misery this year and letting me just hang and eat all the great food they usually have on the BBQ. It’s a great way to spend a day, listening to seminars and browsing through what I always thought to be one of the nicest tackle shop I’ve ever set my foot into. Don’t forget that the owner, Pat Abate is considered to be in eyes of many, including yours truly , one of the best surfcasters of all time. Just don’t crod him, remember, he is a surfcasters and gets cranky very fast
