    Side note:

Someone get me a time machine PLEASE! I love the old “vintage” pictures. Might be my favorite sight on your site here Z. More, More!

I think the caption in the second picture went something like this: After another banner outing in Shagwong it was time to draw straws for the ride back. Having only enough seats for 4 one would have to make the trek back by walking!

Great shots! I just love being part of the surf fishing tradition and seeing where we came from. Even with all the technological advances, it’s still pretty much the same. Walk in the water, throw out lure or bait and hopefully reel in a fish. Don’t get much better than that.

We agree with you. That’s why we are featuring two stories from yesteryears in the upcoming magazine, one on old Ted’s tackle in Brooklyn and the other by probably the one of the best-but-least-known surfcaster of the last 50 years. And a tribute to great Al Bentsen is in works by those who fished along sides of him…and more
We cant get enough of old stories… but you’ll have to wait another 14 days to read them :-)

Love the old buggy`s and notice the felt bottom waders, coool.
Look like 3 guides. And some fun, keep em coming

And people think there was a time when Montauk wasn’t crowded, that could’ve been taken last month

Amazing !!!!! What I find funny is when you look at equipment of then and now. 2 guides on a convential rod …. And they still caught fish

70 years and so few changes.waders, dry top, long poles and strong reels, surf belts and bags, belt gaff replaced by boga, beach buggy. all have pretty much minor upgrades. no real changes. but the comradre, determination, dedication and drive looks just the same. it’s a great sport.

  12. Mike Ludlow says:

Lou, Thanks for pointing out that about the 2 guides. I had not noticed that but it is interesting.
