Almost there…
Posted by: | CommentsI spent at least 6 hours this weekend shooting videos out of which I will be happy with 3, five minute clips.
Why do I do it?
Honestly, I don’t know. I think its because I know Surfcaster’s Journal Blog readers will appreciate them. Just like they do the magazine. Video editing is tedious works, especially when you are half-way clueless like me. But we’ll get through it and I should have at least 5 new videos in next few weeks.
I just wonder how are we going to squeeze this all in when fish show up? I have another project in mind, something that I hope to pull a trigger on in next few weeks. If this comes to fruition, expect to see a lot less of me.
Its down to crunch time…a week or so away from Issue# 2
If you think we surprised a lot of people with issue #1, you just wait. Read More→

Blast from the past
Posted by: | CommentsI have to thank Mr. Alan Segal publicly for sending me a scrap book filed with old articles and interesting stories.
For your reading pleasure, here is the article by my personal guru, a fellow who I consider on par with Mr. Al Bentsen, Cape’s Tony C and very few others. I have no idea what year was this printed but I think you’ll get a kick
By the way
Pat owns Rivers End Tackle in Old Saybrook in CT.
He is hosting a annual “Surf day” on March 27th in his shop, an event that usually is highly anticipated amongst all anglers in Northeast. It doesn’t hurt that Pat shop is so spotless you could eat off the floor and the fact that he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Read More→

Pick a photo, win a prize
Posted by: | CommentsI know some of you have mentioned over the past few months how blog readers should be the ones that get picked for a prize giveaway instead of someone who never responds…
This will surely accomplish that as you will have to post a reply in order to win this prize.
I picked ONE picture out of the magazine, the picture that is my favorite. Now it can be black and white ,color, Santa, war fighting, fishing or cooking or anything in between. Any picture in the magazine is my possible choice. This particular picture I like probably most then any for reasons I will keep to myself. Maybe you will find a picture that speaks to you.
here is your job
Go look through the magazine and pick ONE page number and post it bellow, the picture that you think is my choice
. You get to only a single post so make sure you look through them all. In case there are identical page submission, the first person to guess the right page # wins. Remember what I wrote about me having to approve certain posts too. Lets give it a day or two before we announce the winner
What will you win?
How about these fine Berkley Superline Shears and Sheath
Compliments of fine folks from Berkley and Pure Fishing

Trying new things
Posted by: | CommentsOne thing that I am not to crazy about when doing the shows is that I am usually stuck behind the table the whole day. This doesn’t usually gives me a liberty to walk around like most of you and see what is there. I am always curios about new products. Often on a multi day show I’ll came in extra early just to chat with friends or to see a product that looks interesting.
This, and my general indifference to “new” products usually results in me being unaware of a newest “must have lure” long past everyone else, it seems. That’s ok, I am way pass my plugoholic stage.
I must admit I have a soft spot for anyone who has a “skin in the game” or who has put his/hers hard earned money in this sport that we think is huge but in reality is very tiny. Besides few tackle store owners who cater to boat and surf guys, I’ve never met a man who made a living from surfcasting alone. There always seem to be a “second” job, a pension or something to help out with the bills.
The only reason I am mentioning this is to make you understand why I respect anyone who tries to bring a new product in this market. I love when people at my job (construction) ask me, how come I don’t live off my books?
As embarrassing and deflating to my ego it might be, the only thing we ever got out of that brilliant idea was gas money and most important and the reason I wrote the books in the first place, many thanks for anglers who expressed their gratitude as the books helped them in their success. You don’t have to take my word for it though…my wife will show you a basement with thousands of unsold books which she threatens to use to start a bonfire if I ever think about asking her to wake me up in the middle of the night to go fishing…or for anything else
I was intrigued by a new product called LureTube and I’ve seen their ads but I’ve never seen one in person. My first exposure to the product and owner Evan DeBono was at the Queens show few weeks ago. I made a point of walking over before the show and introduced myself and let Evan fill me in on their possible use. They have a whole “system” designed to fit on your belt and replace your bag.
I have to be perfectly honest, I don’t know if I can ever fish without my trusty Van Staal bag that has been hanging on my shoulder for a decade and is still keeping my lures safe. But I’ve always struggles with rigged eels and skin plugs, shoving them in side pockets, into the bag tubes and stuffing them behind plug inserts. I can definitely see using one or two of these tubes to store my skin plugs, rigged eels and maybe even an oversized chubby plug which can often take a whole round slot in my bag, something that often aggravates me. I can see for those who like to swim with the fishes this product be a Godsend.
I have to be honest with you, I haven’t tried it myself yet but I will. I just figured I pass on something that I found to be interesting and new.

Some things you should know…my bad
Posted by: | CommentsYou know, the more you learn about yourself, the more you realize how little you know.
The “Over/Under” thread made me realize I never explained some things…..things you probably don’t have a clue about, most of you don’t care, but I should off told you anyway
When you post on the blog for the first time, your post goes in the “moderator” mode….I have to manually approve it after I get home…Till then ,it will look to you like your post has disappeared in the thin air.
Few hours later…Voila! there it is.
That’s why someone might of posted a guess of ,I don’t know 155 pages , not knowingly that someone else already made that guess but his post was locked in the moderator mode until Igor The Great got home and tried to use his oversize thumbs on a small keyboard to approve comments.
Oh yeah, every time you make a post I receive an email, regardless if you are clear to post instantly or not
Thank you for sending 164 emails to my phone at work yesterday..
